On our trip to New York, we visitied my first cousin Mona. She is on the left in the posted photo. We talked some genealogy. Our common blood surnames are Schaefer and Weber.

I noted on the news a few days ago a whale sighting in the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn. This reminded me that my great great grandfather Lawrence Weber operated a coal depot on the Gowanus Canal so I Googled "Lawrence Weber Gowanus Canal" and found http://www.bklyn-genealogy-info.com/Directory/1879/w.html.

I'm a little confused by the address which reads "WEBER Lawrence coal 3d & Gowanus canal & 689 5th av h 195 12th" Could the h mean "home"? There seem to be three different addresses here. 689 5th ave is right near Greenwood Cemetary while the current 195 12th (Google maps) is a few blocks away but not right on the Canal. I don't know what to make of 3d & Gowanus although a tributary of the canal does intersect with 3rd Ave.

We took the boys to New York City last week. The City was great, the drive was not.
